Goal

To design a immersive onboarding experience that introduces team members to shared facilities in VR, ensuring that everyone can explore, understand, and interact with the environment intuitively.

Challenge

Many users find VR onboarding confusing β€” they struggle to understand navigation, available features, and goals. The challenge was to design a guided, instructional experience that works across VR and desktop modes.

Design Process

    A. Research & Concept

  • Identified common onboarding issues in VR (orientation, unclear goals, lack of guidance).
  • Storyboarded the learner journey: β€œFrom first entry β†’ guided tour β†’ independent exploration.

    B. UI & Interaction Design

  • Designed menus and interface elements in Figma.
  • Focused on clarity and simplicity (mode switching, help options, team member info).
  • I prototyped the interactions using Unreal Engine blueprints, connecting UI triggers to camera movements and onboarding steps.

Unreal blueprint

    C. Prototyping in Unreal

  • Used Unreal blueprints to create guided camera paths and interactive widgets.
  • Integrated onboarding steps with cinematic sequences.
  • Added props to the environment where interaction was needed.

Key Outcomes

  • Clearer onboarding for new users entering the VR workspace.
  • Reduced confusion about navigation and available tools.
  • Flexible mode switching ensures accessibility for all team members.
